Abstract
A distributed voice controlled system has a primary assistant and at least one secondary assistant. The primary assistant has a housing to hold one or more microphones, one or more speakers, and various computing components. The secondary assistant is similar in structure, but is void of speakers. The voice controlled assistants perform transactions and other functions primarily based on verbal interactions with a user. The assistants within the system are coordinated and synchronized to perform acoustic echo cancellation, selection of a best audio input from among the assistants, and distributed processing.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving speech input at a first device;
- generating first audio data representing the speech input;
- determining a first signal metric associated with the first audio data;
- receiving the speech input at a second device;
- generating second audio data representing the speech input;
- determining a second signal metric associated with the second audio data;
- and
- determining, based at least in part on the first signal metric and the second signal metric, that the first device is to be used to perform an action that is responsive to the speech input.
A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- receiving speech input at a first device;
- determining first data indicating a first proximity of the first device to a user associated with the speech input;
- receiving the speech input at a second device;
- receiving second data indicating a second proximity of the second device to the user;
- and
- determining, based at least in part on the first proximity and the second proximity, that the first device is to be used to perform an action that is responsive to the speech input.
A first device comprising:
- a microphone;
- one or more processors;
- and
- one or more computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- receiving speech input at the first device;
- generating, using the microphone, first audio data representing the speech input;
- determining a first signal metric associated with the first audio data;
- receiving, from a second device, a second signal metric associated with the second audio data generated at the second device, the second audio data representing the speech input;
- and
- determining, based at least in part on the first signal metric and the second signal metric, that the first device is to be used to perform an action that is responsive to the speech input.
