Abstract
A method includes: receiving information indicative of operation of a vehicle and of a driving condition for the vehicle; determining a slowdown event of the vehicle within a predefined time period or distance based on the received information; determining, in response to the determination of the slowdown event within the predefined time period or distance; that a takeover event is feasible based on the received information; and, initiating the takeover event in response to the determination that the takeover event is feasible.
Claims17
A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a controller, information indicative of operation of a vehicle and of a driving condition for the vehicle;
- determining, by the controller based on the received information, a slowdown event caused by one or more vehicles ahead of the vehicle being within a predefined distance of the vehicle for at least a predefined time period;
- determining, by the controller, in response to the determination of the slowdown event, that a takeover event is feasible based on at least (i) the received information comprising a maximum speed for the vehicle and (ii) a minimum speed for the takeover event according to a speed of the one or more vehicles;
- and
- initiating, by the controller, the takeover event in response to the determination that the takeover event is feasible.

A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a controller, information indicative of operation of a vehicle and of a driving condition for the vehicle;
- determining, by the controller based on the received information, a slowdown event caused by one or more vehicles ahead of the vehicle being within a predefined distance of the vehicle for at least a predefined time period;
- determining, by the controller, in response to the determination of the slowdown event, that a takeover event is efficient based on the received information comprising at least (i) an indication of a first amount of fuel consumption for the takeover event that is initiated substantially immediately and (ii) an indication of a second amount of fuel consumption for the takeover event that is initiated after a predefined delay;
- and
- initiating, by the controller, the takeover event in response to the determination that the takeover event is efficient.

A system, comprising:
- a controller comprising at least one processor coupled to a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the controller to perform operations comprising:
- receiving information indicative of operation of a vehicle and of a driving condition for the vehicle;
- determining, based on the received information, a slowdown event caused by one or more vehicles ahead of the vehicle being within a predefined distance of the vehicle for at least a predefined time period;
- determining, in response to the determination of the slowdown event, that a takeover event is feasible or efficient based on at least one of:
- (a) a comparison of the received information comprising (i) a maximum speed for the vehicle and (ii) a minimum speed for the takeover event according to a speed of the one or more vehicles, or
- (b) a comparison of the received information comprising at least (i) an indication of a first amount of fuel consumption for the takeover event that is initiated after a predefined delay and (ii) an indication of a second amount of fuel consumption for the takeover event that is initiated substantially immediately;
- and
- initiating, in response to the determination that the takeover event is feasible or efficient, the takeover event.
