Abstract
A flyer information system recognizes a real world object relating to a flyer based transaction and uses augmented, mixed and/or virtual reality to display information relating to the transaction on a smart device such as a smartphone or AR glasses.
Claims7
A method of presenting flyer information to a user, comprising:
- enabling optical capture by a portable camera of an image of a two-dimensional flyer object having printed indicia disposed thereon, the printed indicia including at least one printed character and a security feature;
- displaying the captured image;
- recognizing the printed indicia from the captured image by pattern matching color and grey-scale information in a predefined recognition area including recognizing the at least one printed character and excluding decoding the security feature;
- associating the recognized two-dimensional flyer object with a data record in a database;
- selecting a media item in response to the associating;
- and
- using augmented reality to superimpose the selected media item onto the display of the captured image of the two-dimensional flyer object or an image derived therefrom such that the selected media item appears to be anchored to or part of the two-dimensional flyer object from different portable camera viewpoints.

A system for presenting flyer information to a user, comprising:
- an electronic display;
- a portable camera configurable to capture an image of a two-dimensional flyer object having printed indicia disposed thereon, the printed indicia including at least one printed character and a security feature;
- and
- at least one processor configured to perform operations comprising:
- displaying the captured image on the electronic display;
- recognizing the printed indicia from the captured image by pattern matching color and grey-scale information in a predefined recognition area including recognizing the at least one printed character, without recognizing the security feature;
- matching the recognized printed indicia with a data record in a database;
- selecting a media item in response to the matching;
- and
- superimposing, on the electronic display, a selected media item onto the display of the captured image of the two-dimensional flyer object or an image derived therefrom such that the selected media item appears to be anchored to the two-dimensional flyer object from different portable camera viewpoints.
