## Abstract

An example operation includes one or more of: detecting a request for a software application from a vehicle computer, wherein the software application includes source code comprising one or more embedded placeholders that are mapped to one or more secrets stored in a data store of a vehicle; identifying the one or more secrets stored in the data store that are associated with the one or more embedded placeholders; replacing the one or more embedded placeholders with the one or more secrets identified from the data store into the source code of the software application; and executing the source code of the software application to cause the vehicle to perform an action.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method, comprising:
detecting a request for a software application from a vehicle, wherein the software application includes source code comprising at least one embedded placeholder containing a dummy value;
identifying at least one sensitive plain-text data value which is mapped to the at least one embedded placeholder within a data store;
replacing, by an embedded system of the vehicle at runtime, the dummy value with the at least one sensitive plain-text data value without storing the plain-text data value in non-volatile memory to generate modified source code;
compiling the modified source code with a wrapper that includes the at least one sensitive plain-text data value thereby compiling the wrapper with the source code;
executing the compiled modified source code via the software application in an embedded system of the vehicle; and
controlling a safety-critical vehicle function that affects maneuvering of the vehicle while travelling along the route based on the executed modified source code in the embedded system.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value is associated with the safety-critical vehicle function.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value comprises financial, banking, or personally-identifiable information about at least one occupant of the vehicle.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value is associated with a geographic location of the vehicle.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value identifies a device associated with an occupant of the vehicle.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value comprises at least one symmetric key pair.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the data store comprises an embedded library, and the replacing comprises executing pre-written code from the embedded library to modify the source code.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the replacing comprises transforming a header file using a template header that replaces a token with a corresponding value from a variable in a file stored in the data store based on a name of the token.

### Claim 9

A system, comprising:
a processor; and
a memory, wherein the processor and the memory are communicably coupled, wherein the processor is configured to:
detect a request for a software application from a vehicle travelling on a route, wherein the software application includes source code that comprises at least one embedded placeholder containing a dummy value;
identify at least one sensitive plain-text data value which is mapped to the at least one embedded placeholder within a data store;
replace, by an embedded system of the vehicle at runtime, the dummy value with the at least one sensitive plain-text data value without storing the plain-text data value in non-volatile memory to generate modified compiled source;
compile the modified source code with a wrapper that includes the at least one sensitive plain-text data value thereby compiling the wrapper with the source code;
execute the compiled modified source code via the software application in an embedded system of the vehicle; and
control a safety-critical vehicle function that affects maneuvering of the vehicle while travelling along the route based on the executed modified compiled source code in the embedded system.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value is associated with the safety-critical vehicle function.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value comprises financial, bank, or personally-identifiable information about an occupant of the vehicle.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value is associated with a geographic location of the vehicle.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value identifies a device associated with an occupant of the vehicle.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value is associated with a type of data that was previously compromised in another vehicle.

### Claim 15 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the at least one sensitive plain-text data value comprises at least one symmetric key pair.

### Claim 16 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9, wherein the data store comprises an embedded library, and the processor is configured to execute pre-written code from the embedded library to modify the source code.

### Claim 17

A computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when read by a processor, cause the processor to perform:
detecting a request for a software application from a vehicle travelling along a route, wherein the software application includes source code comprising at least one embedded placeholder containing a dummy value;
identifying at least one sensitive plain-text data value which is mapped to the at least one embedded placeholder within a data store;
replacing, by an embedded system of the vehicle at runtime, the dummy value with the at least one sensitive plain-text data value without storing the plain-text data value in non-volatile memory to generate modified source;
compiling the modified source code with a wrapper that includes the at least one sensitive plain-text data value thereby compiling the wrapper with the source code;
executing the compiled modified source code of the software application in an embedded system of the vehicle; and
