Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods, apparatus, systems, computing devices, and/or computing entities for displaying content found in technical documentation via an IETM viewer. In accordance with one embodiment, a method is provided comprising: providing content for the topic, wherein the content comprises a topic identifier configured to uniquely identify the topic; and responsive to receiving user input requesting interpretability for the topic identifier: identifying one or more hierarchical portions of the topic identifier; obtaining a semantic definition for each hierarchical portion; and updating the content to display a combination of semantic definitions, the combination of semantic definitions configured to provide interpretability for the topic identifier. For example, interpretability provided for a topic identifier that is a string of numeric characters may include a meaning or definition in English.

Dependent claims

A method for displaying content of a topic found in technical documentation for an item via an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access to the technical documentation for the item via an IETM viewer, the method comprising:

providing a sign-in window for display via the IETM viewer being executed on a user computing entity, wherein (a) a user provides, via the sign-in window and before being signed in and authenticated for access to the IETM, (i) input of a selection of a dataset corresponding to the technical documentation, (ii) input of a selection of a unit displayed for a selectable unit field, (iii) input of a selection of an object displayed for a selectable object field, and (iv) input of a user credential comprising a username and a password, and (b) a sign-in mechanism authenticates for access to the IETM and signs the user into the IETM using the user credential comprising the username and the password, the dataset, the selection of the unit displayed, and the selection of the object displayed that were provided in a message by the sign-in window via one or more messages;
providing content for the topic, wherein the content comprises a topic identifier configured to uniquely identify the topic;
and
responsive to receiving user input requesting interpretability for the topic identifier:
identifying a plurality of hierarchical portions of the topic identifier;
obtaining a semantic definition for each hierarchical portion of the plurality of hierarchical portions;
and
updating the content to display a combination of semantic definitions, wherein:
(a) the combination of semantic definitions is configured to provide interpretability of the plurality of hierarchical portions of the topic identifier,
(b) the combination of semantic definitions comprises (1) a first semantic definition corresponding to a first hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to a second semantic definition, (2) the second semantic definition corresponding to a second hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to a third semantic definition, and (3) the third semantic definition corresponding to a third hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to the second semantic definition, and
(c) the first semantic definition, the second semantic definition, and the third semantic definition are configured for simultaneous display.

An apparatus for displaying content of a topic found in technical documentation for an item via an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access to the technical documentation for the item via an IETM viewer, the apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to:

provide a sign-in window for display via the IETM viewer being executed on a user computing entity, wherein (a) a user provides, via the sign-in window and before being signed in and authenticated for access to the IETM, (i) input of a selection of a dataset corresponding to the technical documentation, (ii) input of a selection of a unit displayed for a selectable unit field, (iii) input of a selection of an object displayed for a selectable object field, and (iv) input of a user credential comprising a username and a password, and (b) a sign-in mechanism authenticates for access to the IETM and signs the user into the IETM using the user credential comprising the username and the password, the dataset, the selection of the unit displayed, and the selection of the object displayed that were provided in a message by the sign-in window via one or more messages;
provide content for the topic, wherein the content comprises a topic identifier configured to uniquely identify the topic;
and
responsive to receiving user input requesting interpretability for the topic identifier:
identify a plurality of hierarchical portions of the topic identifier;
obtain a semantic definition for each hierarchical portion of the plurality of hierarchical portions;
and
update the content to display a combination of semantic definitions, wherein:
(a) the combination of semantic definitions is configured to provide interpretability of the plurality of hierarchical portions of the topic identifier,
(b) the combination of semantic definitions comprises (1) a first semantic definition corresponding to a first hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to a second semantic definition, (2) the second semantic definition corresponding to a second hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to a third semantic definition, and (3) the third semantic definition corresponding to a third hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to the second semantic definition, and
(c) the first semantic definition, the second semantic definition, and the third semantic definition are configured for simultaneous display.

A non-transitory computer storage medium comprising instructions for displaying content of a topic found in technical documentation for an item via an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access to the technical documentation for the item via an IETM viewer, the instructions being configured to cause one or more processors to at least perform operations configured to:

provide a sign-in window for display via the IETM viewer being executed on a user computing entity, wherein (a) a user provides, via the sign-in window and before being signed in and authenticated for access to the IETM, (i) input of a selection of a dataset corresponding to the technical documentation, (ii) input of a selection of a unit displayed for a selectable unit field, (iii) input of a selection of an object displayed for a selectable object field, and (iv) input of a user credential comprising a username and a password, and (b) a sign-in mechanism authenticates for access to the IETM and signs the user into the IETM using the user credential comprising the username and the password, the dataset, the selection of the unit displayed, and the selection of the object displayed that were provided in a message by the sign-in window via one or more messages;

and
responsive to receiving user input requesting interpretability for the topic identifier:
identify a plurality of hierarchical portions of the topic identifier;
obtain a semantic definition for each hierarchical portion of the plurality of hierarchical portions;
and
update the content to display a combination of semantic definitions, wherein:
(a) the combination of semantic definitions is configured to provide interpretability of the plurality of hierarchical portions of the topic identifier,
(b) the combination of semantic definitions comprises (1) a first semantic definition corresponding to a first hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to a second semantic definition, (2) the second semantic definition corresponding to a second hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to a third semantic definition, and (3) the third semantic definition corresponding to a third hierarchical level displayed (i) in a textual format and (ii) in hierarchical relation to the second semantic definition, and
(c) the first semantic definition, the second semantic definition, and the third semantic definition are configured for simultaneous display.
