Abstract
Methods, systems, and devices for implicit storage of metadata at a memory device are described. A memory device may perform an error correction code (ECC) decoding operation on a first set of parity bits for a set of data and a second set of parity bits for the set of data. The memory device may compare the first set of parity bits to the second set of parity bits based on the ECC decoding operation indicating that the set of data has an uncorrectable error, the first set of parity bits to the second set of parity bits. The memory device may recover metadata information, for the set of data, previously received by the memory device, based on the comparison.
Claims25
A method, comprising:
- performing, by a memory device, an error correction code (ECC) decoding operation on a first set of parity bits for a set of data and a second set of parity bits for the set of data;
- and
- recovering metadata information previously received by the memory device, for the set of data, based at least in part on the ECC decoding operation,
- wherein one or more second values recovered for the metadata information, when the ECC decoding operation indicates the set of data is associated with an uncorrectable error, are different from one or more first values recovered for the metadata information when the ECC decoding operation indicates the set of data is error-free or indicates the set of data is associated with a correctable error.
A method, comprising:
- performing, by a memory device, an error correction code (ECC) decoding operation for a set of data;
- and
- recovering metadata information for the set of data, the metadata information previously received by the memory device, based at least in part on the ECC decoding operation,
- wherein one or more second values recovered for the metadata information, when the ECC decoding operation indicates the set of data is associated with an uncorrectable error, are different from one or more first values recovered for the metadata information when the ECC decoding operation indicates the set of data is error-free or indicates the set of data is associated with a correctable error.
A memory device, comprising:
- a memory array;
- and
- an error correction code (ECC) circuit coupled with the memory array, wherein the memory device is configured to:
- perform, by the ECC circuit, an ECC decoding operation on a first set of parity bits for a set of data and a second set of parity bits for the set of data;
- and
- recover metadata information previously received by the memory device, for the set of data, based at least in part on the ECC decoding operation,
- wherein one or more second values recovered for the metadata information, when the ECC decoding operation indicates the set of data is associated with an uncorrectable error, are different from one or more first values recovered for the metadata information when the ECC decoding operation indicates the set of data is error-free or indicates the set of data is associated with a correctable error.
