Integrating and cataloguing application programming interfaces for network environments

A method of integrating application programming interfaces (APIs) for use in network environments, comprising:

• receiving, by a service, from an administrator device, a request to deploy an API for use in a network environment among one or more applications, the request comprising:
• (i) a type of application associated with a functionality of the one or more applications for which the API is to be deployed for use, the one or more applications hosted on one or more servers in the network environment, the API configured to facilitate communications among the one or more applications, and (ii) a specification defining the API according to a template of a plurality of templates for the type of application;
• identifying, by the service, responsive to receiving the request, the type of application associated with the functionality of the one or more applications, the specification, and the template with which the specification is generated;
• selecting, by the service, from a plurality of domains corresponding to the plurality of templates, a domain for which to validate the specification, based on the type of application associated with the functionality of the one or more applications and the template with which the specification is generated;
• identifying, by the service, from a plurality of policies corresponding to the plurality of domains, a policy based on the domain, the policy defining (i) information to be included in the specification of the API for the type of application and (ii) a functionality criterion to be satisfied by the API for the type of application;
• executing, by the service, a performance test on the API to determine that the API satisfies the functionality criterion;
• determining, by the service, that the specification defining the API is validated based on identifying that the specification includes the information and the API satisfies the functionality criterion as defined by the policy for the domain;
• generating, by the service, an indication of approval of the API for use in the network environment among the one or more applications, responsive to determining that the specification defining the API is validated;
• storing, by the service, on a database, an association between the specification of the API and the indication of approval;
• and
• permitting, by the service, use of the API for the one or more applications hosted on the one or more servers in the network environment based on storage of the association.
