Abstract
Described are improved systems, computer program products, and methods for a new local rolling online patching solution to a database server with minimized disruption to other instances during patching. For a one-node database server, it achieves single rolling online patching by starting a new instance of the same database from the newly patched home before shutting down the collocated instance running out of the old home.
Claims25
A method, comprising:
- identifying a single node that needs an upgrade;
- preparing the single node for a single-node rolling upgrade;
- and
- performing the single-node rolling upgrade on the single node to upgrade a first or old instance on the single node to a second or new instance on the single node, wherein the first or old instance on the single node is shut down after the second or new instance starts executing on the single node such that the first or old instance and the second or new instance are temporarily co-located and executing on the single node.
A system, comprising:
- a processor;
- a memory storing programmable code;
- and
- wherein the programmable code includes instructions executable by the processor for identifying a single node that needs an upgrade;
- preparing the single node for a single-node rolling upgrade;
- and performing the single-node rolling upgrade on the single node to upgrade a first or old instance on the single node to a second or new instance on the single node, wherein the first or old instance on the single node is shut down after the second or new instance starts executing on the single node such that the first or old instance and the second or new instance are temporarily co-located and executing on the single node.
A computer program product embodied on a non-transitory computer readable medium, the non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a sequence of instructions which, when executed by a processor, causes:
- identifying a single node that needs an upgrade;
- preparing the single node for a single-node rolling upgrade;
- and
- performing the single-node rolling upgrade on the single node to upgrade a first or old instance on the single node to a second or new instance on the single node, wherein the first or old instance on the single node is shut down after the second or new instance starts executing on the single node such that the first or old instance and the second or new instance are temporarily co-located and executing on the single node.
