Dynamic updating of a power available level for a datacenter

A method of dynamically updating a reported maximum power consumption for a site with a plurality of computing systems, the method comprising

• determining a low power consumption (“LPC”) based at least in part on a minimum power consumption of the plurality of computing systems at the site and a power consumption of supporting equipment, wherein the supporting equipment is co-located at the site and supports operation of the plurality of computing systems;
• determining a full power consumption (“FPC”) based at least in part on a power consumption of the plurality of computing systems when operating at full power;
• determining a maximum power consumption (“MPC”) comprising at least the sum of the LPC and the FPC;
• reporting the MPC;
• determining that actual power consumption at the site exceeds or will exceed the MPC;
• reducing power consumption of one or more computing systems of the plurality of computing systems based at least in part on maintaining actual power consumption at or below the MPC;
• determining a reduced power consumption (“RPC”) amount as a consequence of reducing power consumption of the one or more computing systems of the plurality of computing systems;
• determining a modified MPC based at least in part on the RPC;
• and
• reporting the modified MPC.
