Abstract
A system can include a smart textile arranged on at least a portion of a surface of a device: and at least one processor communicatively coupled with the smart textile and configured to receive at least one signal from the smart textile related to input to the smart textile, process the at least one signal to identify at least one characteristic of the input, and based on the processing, cause at least one change related to the input.
Claims21
A system comprising:
- a smart textile conformed on at least a portion of a surface of a set of headphones or a loudspeaker, the smart textile being configured to detect at least one input and comprising at least one of:
- (i) electromechanical sensing fibers configured to detect mechanical input to the smart textile;
- or
- (ii) acoustic or vibrational sensing fibers configured to detect a sound-field change or a vibrational pressure pattern input to the smart textile,
- wherein the smart textile is configured to generate at least one signal in response to the detected at least one input;
- and
- at least one processor communicatively coupled to the smart textile and configured to:
- receive the at least one signal from the smart textile;
- process the received at least one signal to identify at least one characteristic associated with the at least one input;
- and
- based on the identified at least one characteristic, cause a change associated with the set of headphones or the loudspeaker.

A method comprising:
- detecting, by a smart textile conformed on at least a portion of a surface of a set of headphones or a loudspeaker, at least one input including at least one of:
- (i) mechanical input to the smart textile by one or more electromechanical sensing fibers of the smart textile;
- or
- (ii) a sound-field change or a vibrational pressure pattern input to the smart textile by one or more acoustic or vibrational sensing fibers of the smart textile;
- generating at least one signal by the smart textile in response to the detected at least one input;
- processing, by at least one processor of the set of headphones or the loudspeaker, the at least one signal to identify at least one characteristic associated with the at least one input;
- and
- based on the identified at least one characteristic, causing a change associated with the set of headphones or the loudspeaker.

A set of headphones comprising:
- a smart textile conformed on at least a portion of a surface of the set of headphones, the smart textile being configured to detect at least one input and comprising at least one of:
- (i) electromechanical sensing fibers configured to detect mechanical input to the smart textile;
- or
- (ii) acoustic or vibrational sensing fibers configured to detect a sound-field change or a vibrational pressure pattern input to the smart textile,
- wherein the smart textile is configured to generate at least one signal in response to the detected at least one input;
- and
- at least one processor communicatively coupled with the smart textile and configured to:
- receive the at least one signal from the smart textile related to the detected at least one input;
- process the at least one signal to identify at least one characteristic associated with the at least one input;
- and
- based on the identified at least one characteristic, cause a change associated with the set of headphones.

A speaker comprising:
- a smart textile conformed on at least a portion of a surface of the speaker, the smart textile being configured to detect at least one input and comprising at least one of:
- (i) electromechanical sensing fibers configured to detect mechanical input to the smart textile;
- or
- (ii) acoustic or vibrational sensing fibers configured to detect a sound-field change or a vibrational pressure pattern input to the smart textile,
- wherein the smart textile is configured to generate at least one signal in response to the detected at least one input;
- and
- at least one processor communicatively coupled with the smart textile and configured to:
- receive the at least one signal from the smart textile related to the detected at least one input;
- process the at least one signal to identify at least one characteristic associated with the at least one input;
- and
- based on the identified at least one characteristic, cause a change associated with the speaker.
