A peripheral compute node addresses the challenge of extreme high-speed communication between accelerator modules in supercomputing systems where copper interconnects become inadequate at frequencies of 56G baud and above. The node comprises detachable accelerator and optical converter modules positioned with electrical trace lengths as short as 5 millimeters to minimize signal degradation. A two-part liquid cooling system enables independent thermal pressure application to different circuit board areas through mechanically isolated heat sinks connected by flexible tubes sharing common inlet and outlet connections. The architecture supports optical communication between accelerator modules on the same board, within the same rack, and across different racks, enabling distributed modules to function as unified supercomputers while providing field serviceability through pluggable component replacement.
