Abstract
An optical fiber characteristic measurement apparatus includes an arithmetic unit configured to measure the characteristic of an optical fiber under test by extracting multiple peaks in a Brillouin gain spectrum of Brillouin scatted light occurring in the optical fiber under test.
Claims7
An optical fiber characteristic measurement apparatus comprising:
- an arithmetic unit configured to measure a characteristic of an optical fiber under test by detecting multiple peaks in a Brillouin gain spectrum of Brillouin scatted light occurring in the optical fiber under test and calculating multiple Brillouin frequency shifts,
- the arithmetic unit is configured to measure the fiber characteristic by detecting multiple peaks that are simultaneously present in a single Brillouin gain spectrum, obtained from a single measurement segment of the optical fiber under test, and calculating multiple Brillouin frequency shifts corresponding to those multiple peaks in that single spectrum,
- the arithmetic unit is configured to detect the multiple peaks with powers that are twice or more as much as noise power.
An optical fiber characteristic measurement method comprising:
- (i) measuring a characteristic of an optical fiber under test by detecting multiple peaks in a Brillouin gain spectrum of Brillouin scatted light occurring in the optical fiber under test and calculating multiple Brillouin frequency shifts,
- the step (i) further comprising measuring the fiber characteristic by detecting multiple peaks that are simultaneously present in a single Brillouin gain spectrum, obtained from a single measurement segment of the optical fiber under test, and calculating multiple Brillouin frequency shifts corresponding to those multiple peaks in that single spectrum,
- the step (i) further comprising detecting the multiple peaks with powers that are twice or more as much as noise power.
