Abstract
A coupling system is described comprising an anchor that may releasably connect to a coupled member. Associated tools configured to cooperate with the coupling system and methods of use of the coupling system and release or re-engagement of the coupling system are also described. In one embodiment, the coupling system may further comprise an enclosing member and release member and a related tool or tools to actuate release of the connection and re-engage of the connection as desired.
Claims21
A coupling assembly configured to releasably couple with a coupleable member, the coupling assembly comprising:
- an anchor comprising:
- at least one jaw having an internal jaw side and an external taper, the internal jaw side configured to interfere with movement of the coupleable member relative to the anchor;
- and
- a body with an internal taper complementary to the external taper;
- an enclosing member, the enclosing member at least partly surrounding the anchor an opening to allow passage of the coupleable member to the anchor inside the enclosing member;
- a release member movable relative to the body between a first position and a second position;
- and
- at least one tool-access opening;
- wherein, when the release member is in the first position, the at least one jaw is configured to engage the coupleable member and the body to thereby prevent separation of the coupleable member from the anchor, and, when the release member is actuated to move to the second position, the release member forces the at least one jaw to disengage the body;
- and
- wherein the at least one tool-access opening allows insertion of a tool into or through the at least one tool-access opening to thereby mechanically urge the release member towards the second position and move the release member from the first position to the second position, and withdrawal of the tool allows the release member to return from the second position to the first position.
The column assembly as claimed in 19, wherein the at least one bearing plate comprises two bearing plates, wherein one of the two bearing plates is fastened to the end of each column, and the bearing plates abut each other.
