Abstract
An aluminum alloy comprising aluminum, copper, cerium, and one or more of manganese and zirconium. The aluminum alloy comprises a copper:cerium ratio of about 2.0:1.0. Related methods of forming articles comprising the aluminum alloy and articles comprising the aluminum alloy are also disclosed.
Claims17
An aluminum alloy consisting of aluminum, copper, cerium, manganese, zirconium, and a total impurity content of less than or equal to about 0.1% by weight, the aluminum alloy comprising a copper:
- cerium ratio of about 2.0:1.0.
An aluminum article consisting of aluminum, copper, cerium, scandium, and one or more of manganese and zirconium, the aluminum article having a total impurity content of less than or equal to about 0.1% by weight and exhibiting a heterogeneous microstructure.
A method of forming an aluminum article, comprising:
- combining aluminum, copper, cerium, scandium, and one or more of manganese and zirconium to form an aluminum alloy mixture;
- heating the aluminum alloy mixture to form a molten aluminum alloy;
- and
- casting the molten aluminum alloy into a mold of an article, the article consisting of the aluminum, the copper, the cerium, the scandium, and the one or more of manganese and zirconium, the article having a total impurity content of less than or equal to about 0.1% by weight and exhibiting a heterogeneous microstructure.
