Abstract
The invention relates to genetically engineered microorganisms, such as bacteria, modified to increase production of cellulose and methods of producing said genetically engineered microorganisms. The invention also relates to the use of these genetically engineered microorganisms in agriculture.
Claims22
A genetically engineered root-associated bacterium for increased cellulose production, wherein cellulose production is increased at least 3 fold as compared to the wild-type bacterium, wherein the root-associated bacterium is a Pseudomonas bacterium, wherein the root-associated bacterium is genetically modified to overexpress at least seven proteins involved in synthesis and/or secretion of cellulose, wherein the root-associated bacterium comprises an exogenous bcsA gene, an exogenous bcsB gene, an exogenous bcsC gene, an exogenous bcsD gene, an exogenous ccpAx gene, an exogenous cmcAx gene and an exogenous bglAx gene.
