Abstract
The present disclosure provides, in various aspects, engineered alcohol tolerant yeast and methods of producing high concentrations of biofuels and bioplastics from toxic feedstocks.

A genetically modified yeast cell comprising:
- a first exogenous gene operably linked to a promoter, wherein the first exogenous gene encodes an enzyme having methylglyoxal reductase (GRE2) activity comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:
