Small molecule passivation of quantum dots for increased quantum yield

A film comprising a population of nanostructures, each of the nanostructures comprising:

• (a) a nanocrystal core;
• (b) a shell;
• (c) a metal halide bound to the shell;
• and
• (d) a metal carboxylate bound to the shell, wherein the population of nanostructures exhibits a photoluminescence spectrum with a full width at half maximum of between 30 nm±10% and 45 nm±10%.

A light emitting diode comprising:

• (i) a first conductive layer;
• (ii) a second conductive layer;
• and
• (iii) an emissive layer between the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer, the emissive layer comprising a population of nanostructures, each of the nanostructures comprising:
• (a) a nanocrystal core;
• (b) a shell;
• (c) a metal halide bound to the shell;
• and
• (d) a metal carboxylate bound to the shell, wherein the population of nanostructures exhibits a photoluminescence spectrum with a full width at half maximum of between 30 nm±10% and 45 nm±10%.

A display device comprising:

• (i) a backlight;
• and
• (ii) a color filter comprising at least one pixel region, the at least one pixel region comprising at least one color conversion layer located to convert light from the backlight to light for output from the display device, the color conversion layer comprising a population of nanostructures, each of the nanostructures comprising:
• (a) a nanocrystal core;
• (b) a shell;
• (c) a metal halide bound to the shell;
• and
• (d) a metal carboxylate bound to the shell, wherein the population of nanostructures exhibits a photoluminescence spectrum with a full width at half maximum of between 30 nm±10% and 45 nm±10%.
