Automatic encoder calibration system for an agricultural vehicle

A steering control system configured to operate a steering input device of an agricultural vehicle to perform a turn, the steering control system comprising processing circuitry configured to:

• obtain steering condition data corresponding to steering conditions of the steering input device;
• obtain partial curvature data corresponding to first curvatures of a first chassis portion of the agricultural vehicle;
• determine, based on the partial curvature data, combined curvature data corresponding to combined curvatures of the first curvatures of the first chassis portion and second curvatures of a second chassis portion pivotably coupled to the first chassis portion;
• generate, based on the steering condition data and the combined curvature data, a primary curvature model that determines steering condition data given commanded curvature data;
• and
• operate the steering input device using (1) the primary curvature model and (2) a given commanded curvature.

A method for controlling a steering input device of an agricultural vehicle, the method comprising:

• obtaining steering condition data corresponding to steering conditions of the steering conditions of the steering input device;
• obtaining partial curvature data corresponding to first curvatures of a first chassis portion of the agricultural vehicle;
• determining, based on the partial curvature data, combined curvature data corresponding to combined curvatures of the first curvatures of the first chassis portion and second curvatures of a second chassis portion pivotably coupled to the first chassis portion;
• generating, based on the steering condition data and the combined curvature data, a primary curvature model that determines steering condition data given commanded curvature data;
• and
• operating the steering input device using (1) the primary curvature model and (2) a given commanded curvature.
