## Abstract

A method of producing banknotes on a substrate in-line on a web-based process is disclosed, including providing a tactile layer. In addition, a banknote produced by the above method, a banknote having a single-ink system, a coating for banknote and a tactile security feature are disclosed.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A banknote comprising:
a substrate;
a printed indicia layer;
a printed tactile paper-feel layer extending over a surface of the substrate except in at least one selective area including a security feature, the printed layers at least partly overlapping and in contact with each other;
wherein, in overlapping regions, the print layers are partially dissolved into one another; and,
each of the printed layers includes an ink having Hansen Solubility parameters within the following ranges: δd—between 17 and 19, δp—between 9 and 11 and δh—between 5 and 7.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The banknote as claimed in claim 1, wherein the printed paper-feel tactile layer is a transparent or translucent paper-feel layer.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The banknote as claimed in claim 2, wherein the transparent or translucent paper-feel tactile layer includes an ink having tactile particles.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The banknote as claimed in claim 3, wherein the tactile particles have an average particle size of 5 to 35 microns in at least one dimension, and/or the tactile particles have an average particle size aspect ratio between substantially 1 and 5.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The banknote as claimed in claim 3, wherein the printed paper-feel tactile layer contains substantially 5% to 20% by weight of tactile particles to ink and/or the tactile particles are made from one or a combination of polyethylene, polypropylene, glass, acrylic, polyurethane, ceramic or rubber.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The banknote as claimed in claim 3, wherein the printed paper-feel tactile layer has a first thickness in first regions and a second thickness in second regions, the second regions providing enhanced tactility.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The banknote as claimed in claim 3, wherein the printed paper-feel tactile layer includes conductive particles.

### Claim 8 (depends on 3)

The banknote as claimed in claim 3, wherein the transparent or translucent paper-feel tactile layer contains substantially 10% to 15% by weight of tactile particles to ink.

### Claim 9

A banknote comprising:
a substrate;
a printed indicia layer;
a printed paper-feel tactile layer extending over a surface of the substrate, printed layers at least partly overlapping and in contact with each other;
wherein in overlapping regions, the printed layers are partially dissolved into one another; and
each of the inks has a Hansen Solubility “Hydrogen bonding” parameter, δh, having a difference of less than 2.5 to any other ink of said layers.

### Claim 10

A banknote comprising:
a polymer substrate;
a printed indicia layer;
a printed tactile paper-feel layer extending over a surface of the substrate, each of the printed layers at least partly overlapping and in contact with each other;
wherein, in overlapping regions, the printed layers are partially dissolved into one another; and
each ink having Hansen Solubility parameters within the following ranges: δd—between 17 and 19, δp—between 9 and 11 and δh—between 5 and 7, and wherein the printed tactile paper-feel layer provides an increased surface roughness to the polymer substrate and a coefficient of friction between the banknote and another of the same banknote of between 0.2 and 0.4.
