System for electrode foil pre-heating, and methods thereof

A system for pre-heating an electrode foil, comprising:

• a chimney formed between an inner surface of a first wall and an inner surface of a second wall, the chimney comprising a foil inlet at a first end between the first wall and the second wall, and a foil outlet between the first wall and the second wall and at a second end adjacent to a nip comprising a first calendering roller and a second calendering roller of a heated calender roll device, the chimney configured such that the electrode foil can pass through the foil inlet and out the foil outlet;
• and
• a heating device configured to heat the electrode foil adjacent to the foil outlet to a temperature proximate the temperature of the first and second calendering rollers, wherein the heating device comprises:
• a gas inlet;
• a heater configured to heat gas from the gas inlet;
• and
• a nozzle adjacent to the foil outlet and in fluid communication with the heater, the nozzle comprising a bend configured to direct a flow of gas to the inner surface of the heated wall and towards the foil inlet;
• wherein the heating device is positioned such that the electrode foil passes from the foil outlet into the nip to create a strain-balanced foil.
