Abstract
A golf club such as a putter is disclosed where the elongated putter shaft and the player grip are angled with respect to one another such that a central axis of the shaft is not parallel to an axis of a shaft channel in said grip. In other aspects, the club can be self-balancing, and in other aspects, the club can have a forward or a rearward lean. In the invention, force applied to the grip of the club will be transferred to a club head through said shaft where said shaft is at an angle with respect to said grip.
Claims30
A golf club comprising:
- a straight shaft having a shaft center axis;
- a grip at one end of said shaft, said grip having a grip center axis, and a front edge of the grip having a reference line extending down the side of the grip, the grip further comprising a channel configured to receive said shaft therein and having a channel center axis;
- a club head at another end of said shaft having a forward lean, said club head comprising a club face configured to make contact with a golf ball and the reference line at the front edge of the grip aligned with the club face, and
- wherein said grip center axis and said channel center axis are not parallel to one another;
- wherein said channel is angled such that an angle between the grip center axis and the shaft center axis is offset so that the front edge of the grip is aligned with the club face to compensate for the forward lean of said shaft, and wherein the golf club is configured to resist twisting when the club face contacts the golf ball by correcting the club face.
2 more elements
A golf club comprising:
- a straight shaft having a first end, a second end, and a shaft center axis, the shaft comprising an approximately round cross section;
- a grip at one end of said shaft, said grip having a grip center axis and configured to be connected at the second end of the shaft, said grip including a cross section with respect to the grip axis, the grip further comprising a channel configured to receive said shaft therein and having a channel center axis;
- said channel is within and along a longitudinal direction of the grip and configured to receive said shaft therein, the channel having a channel axis approximately coincided with the shaft axis but not with the grip axis;
- and
- a club head connected to the first end of said shaft having a forward lean, said club head comprising a top side and a club face configured to make contact with a golf ball;
- wherein said grip center axis and said channel center axis are not parallel to one another so that the grip is aligned with the club face;
- and
- wherein said channel is angled such that a lie angle formed is approximately constant regardless of a location that the club is grippable along said grip.
5 more elements
A golf club comprising:
- a club head having a top side and a club face;
- a straight shaft having a first end, a second end, and a shaft axis, the first end of the shaft is configured to be attached to the top side of the club head;
- a grip having a grip axis and configured to be connected at the second end of the shaft, said grip has a section relative to a longitudinal direction with respect to the grip axis defined by a long axis and a short axis with the short axis having different dimension than the long axis;
- and
- a channel formed within and along the longitudinal direction of approximately an entire length of the grip and configured to receive said shaft therein, the channel having a channel axis approximately coincided with the shaft axis but not with the grip axis, said channel comprising an approximately circular cross section along the channel axis;
- wherein the shaft axis intersects the grip axis to form an angle between the shaft axis and the grip axis, and wherein the angle between the shaft axis and the grip axis is in the range of about 0.5° to about 20°, and wherein the golf club is configured to enable the club face to at least one of:
- resist or correct twisting of said shaft during an arc of stroke when the golf club is making contact with a golf ball.
