## Abstract

Systems and methods can involve wedge dissectors attached to strips in turn attached to medical balloons, for forming serrations within vascular wall tissue for angioplasty as well reducing vessel recoil, reducing residual stenosis, and increasing volumetric blood flow post angioplasty. The design, methods of use, intended outcomes, and process to build this type of balloon is described herein.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An intravascular device comprising:
a catheter comprising a balloon and a plurality of strips disposed on an outer surface of the balloon, each strip of the plurality of strips including a plurality of wedge dissectors spaced apart along a surface of each strip, wherein each of the plurality of wedge dissectors comprises a blunt top surface; and
a plurality of pumps connected to the balloon and acting on a liquid medium used to fill the balloon, wherein a pump of the plurality of pumps is configured to produce hydraulic waves for calcium fracturing,
wherein the plurality of wedge dissectors is configured to cause cleavage planes allowing plaque to separate only along longitudinal lines, wherein a longitudinal crack is configured to propagate faster with the production of the hydraulic waves, and wherein the combined plurality of wedge dissectors and the hydraulic waves break the plaque into smaller particles allowing more effective vessel expansion.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the hydraulic waves are configured to be transmitted through the liquid medium used to fill the balloon.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the hydraulic waves are configured to be transmitted through a wall of the balloon.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the hydraulic waves are configured to be transmitted through the plurality of strips.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pumps is configured to compress the plaque.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of wedge dissectors comprise a shape to enable the effective transduction of the hydraulic waves into tissue.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the energy delivery is more effective in combination with nucleation sites provided by the plurality of wedge dissectors.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the longitudinal crack is configured to propagate in a more controlled manner with the production of the hydraulic waves.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pumps is configured to produce effective lumen gain.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1 wherein the plurality of pumps is configured to crack medial plaque.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pumps is configured to crack intimal plaque.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pumps is configured for lesion preparation.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the hydraulic waves are configured to be transmitted through metal.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pumps is separate from the catheter.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pumps is integrated with the catheter.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of wedge dissectors increases tissue transduction of energy.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of wedge dissectors concentrates energy delivery.

### Claim 18 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of wedge dissectors penetrates plaque easier with the production of the hydraulic waves.

### Claim 19 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the longitudinal crack propagates easier with the production of the hydraulic waves.

### Claim 20 (depends on 1)

The intravascular device of claim 1, wherein the longitudinal crack is configured to propagate in a more controlled manner with the production of the hydraulic waves.
