Catheter device

A catheter device comprising:

• a housing extending from a proximal end to a distal end;
• a fixed tubular segment extending from a proximal end to a distal end, the proximal end of the fixed tubular segment immovably coupled to the housing adjacent the proximal end of the housing and the distal end of the fixed tubular segment disposed at a position adjacent the distal end of the housing, wherein the fixed tubular segment extends straight along its longitudinal axis between the proximal end and the distal end thereof;
• an outer tubular member extending from a proximal end to a distal end, the proximal end of the outer tubular member immovably coupled to the housing adjacent the distal end of the housing;
• an inner tubular member extending from a proximal end to a distal end, the inner tubular member slidably received within an interior of the outer tubular member and slidably received over an exterior of the fixed tubular segment, wherein the fixed tubular member is formed from a rigid and smooth metallic material to promote low-friction sliding of an interior of the inner tubular member over the exterior of the fixed tubular segment along a range of motion of the inner tubular member relative to the fixed tubular member, the inner tubular member configured to slide relative to each of the fixed tubular segment and the outer tubular member to selectively extend the distal end of the inner tubular member in a distal direction and/or to retract the distal end of the inner tubular member in a proximal direction, wherein each of the distal end of the inner tubular member and the distal end of the outer tubular member are always disposed distally relative to the distal end of the fixed tubular segment, wherein the inner tubular member is extendable to a position where the distal end of the inner tubular member is disposed distally relative to the distal end of the outer tubular member and wherein the inner tubular member is retractable to a position where the distal end of the inner tubular member is aligned with or disposed proximally relative to the distal end of the outer tubular member thereby allowing for either of the distal end of the inner tubular member or the distal end of the outer tubular member to form a distalmost surface of the catheter device.
