Abstract
Provided herein are methods and systems employing agents that up-regulate E-cadherin, or E-cadherin agonists, for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, such as inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., Crohn's disease). In certain embodiments, the agent employed is ML327, E-cadherin Up-regulator (ECU), or a compound of Formula I or II.
Claims7
A method of treating an inflammatory bowel disease having intestinal mucosal injury comprising:
- administering to a subject a composition comprising an agent that up-regulates the expression of E-cadherin,
- wherein said agent is small molecule selected from the group consisting of ML327 (N-(3-(2-hydroxynicotinamido) propyl)-5-phenylisoxazole-3-carboxamide), which has the following structure:
- and E-cadherin Up-Regulator (ECU;
- 5-(Furan-2-yl)-N-(pyridine-4-yl)butyl)isoxazole-3-carboxamide), which has the following structure:
- wherein said subject has an inflammatory bowel disease that comprises intestinal mucosal injury, and
- wherein said administering of said composition:
- i) prevents cytokine induced disruption of epithelial adheren junctions, and ii) stimulates increased wound healing of said intestinal mucosal injury by increasing migration of intestinal epithelial cells.
