A method for the treatment of acute optic neuritis that is efficacious for at least 28 days, comprising administering an effective amount of a compound of the structure:
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in a pharmaceutically acceptable composition to a human in need thereof;
- wherein the treatment is administered once a day for 5-7 days.
