Abstract
A composition comprising an active agent that inhibits acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) is provided. With the composition, food intake can be suppressed, and/or body weight can be reduced, and/or metabolic disorders can be prevented and/or treated.
Claims5
A method of treating a diabetic condition in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising avasimibe or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof that non-selectively inhibits in vivo both acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase 1 (ACAT1) and acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase 2 (ACAT2),
- wherein the degree that the composition inhibits ACAT1 is less than the degree that the composition inhibits ACAT2, and
- wherein the composition results in a reduction of blood glucose level, plasma insulin level, or insulin resistance in the subject.
