Abstract
The present technology provides for a remote continuous monitoring system that monitors a patient's vital signs and generates an alarm in response to detecting a likely onset of an adverse event. The monitoring system advantageously allows patients recovering from clinical treatments to do so at home, outside of a hospital. Furthermore, the monitoring system provides continuous monitoring of patient vital signs, which advantageously provides more information than intermittent manual measurements of patient vital signs typical in a hospital. The monitoring system, therefore, may more readily and more timely detect a likely onset of an adverse event.
Claims21
A method for remote monitoring of an immunotherapy patient's vital signs after receiving an immunotherapy treatment to promptly detect an indication of a likely onset of adverse events from known side effects of the immunotherapy treatment without requiring the patient to remain in a treatment facility for observation, comprising:
- determining over a period of time prior to the treatment, by a computing system, a patient's baseline values for a set of vital signs, the set of vital signs including vital signs relevant to determining the likely onset of adverse events from known side effects of the immunotherapy treatment;
- determining, and storing in the computing system, personalized values for vital sign thresholds based on the patient's baseline values for the set of vital signs, the vital sign threshold values being indicative of the likely onset of one or more known adverse events associated with the treatment, the vital sign thresholds including a first predetermined amount above and/or a second predetermined amount below the patient's respective baseline vital sign values, wherein the personalized values for vital sign thresholds include patient-specific upper and lower thresholds for one or more of the set of vital signs, defined as predetermined offsets from the patient's baseline values for a corresponding vital sign;
- generating, via an alarm rule generator, alarm rules based on the vital sign thresholds;
- remotely measuring, after the treatment, by one or more wearable sensors, first vital signs for the patient;
- determining, by the computing computer system, if vital signs measured after the treatment exceed at least one of the corresponding patient vital sign thresholds;
- and
- generating, by the computing system, one or more notifications based on the alarm rules.
A system for remote monitoring of an immunotherapy patient's vital signs after receiving an immunotherapy treatment to detect an indication of a likely onset of adverse events from known side effects of the immunotherapy treatment without requiring the patient to remain in a treatment facility for observation, comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the system to perform:
- determining over a period of time prior to the treatment, a patient's baseline values for a set of vital signs, the set of vital signs including vital signs relevant to determining the likely onset of adverse events from known side effects of the immunotherapy treatment;
- determining and storing, personalized values for vital sign thresholds based on the patient's baseline values for the set of vital signs, the vital sign thresholds being indicative of the likely onset of one or more known adverse events associated with the treatment, the vital sign thresholds including a first predetermined amount above and/or a second predetermined amount below the patient's respective baseline vital sign values, wherein the personalized values for vital sign thresholds include patient-specific upper and lower thresholds for one or more of the set of vital signs, defined as predetermined offsets from the patient's baseline values for a corresponding vital sign;
- generating, via an alarm rule generator, alarm rules based on the vital sign thresholds;
- remotely measuring, after the treatment, by one or more wearable sensors, first vital signs for the patient;
- determining if vital signs measured after the treatment exceed at least one of the corresponding patient vital sign thresholds;
- and
- generating one or more notifications based on the alarm rules.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for remote monitoring of an immunotherapy patient's vital signs after receiving an immunotherapy treatment to detect an indication of a likely onset of adverse events from known side effects of the immunotherapy treatment without requiring the patient to remain in a treatment facility for observation including instructions that, when executed, cause a computing system to perform:
- determining over a period of time prior to the treatment, a patient's baseline values for a set of vital signs, the set of vital signs including vital signs relevant to determining the likely onset of adverse events from known side effects of the immunotherapy treatment;
- determining and storing, personalized values for vital sign thresholds based on the patient's baseline values for the set of vital signs, the vital sign thresholds being indicative of the likely onset of one or more known adverse events associated with the treatment, the vital sign thresholds including a first predetermined amount above and/or a second predetermined amount below the patient's respective baseline vital sign values, wherein the personalized values for vital sign thresholds include patient-specific upper and lower thresholds for one or more of the set of vital signs, defined as predetermined offsets from the patient's baseline values for a corresponding vital sign;
- generating, via an alarm rule generator, alarm rules based on the vital sign thresholds;
- remotely measuring, after the treatment, by one or more wearable sensors, first vital signs for the patient;
- determining if the vital signs measured after the treatment exceed at least one of the corresponding patient vital sign thresholds;
- and
- generating one or more notifications based on the alarm rules.
