Abstract
A seating unit operates by receiving, via a communication interface from a client device associated with a user, communications that include selection data generated by the client device based on user input by the user to an interactive user interface of the client device, wherein the selection data includes a target temperature; receiving, via at least one processor, an ambient temperature associated with an environment surrounding the seating unit; selectively adjusting, via the at least one processor, the target temperature based on the ambient temperature; and delivering power to a first heating element of the seating unit and a second heating element of the seating unit responsive to the target temperature.
Claims19
A seating unit comprising:
- a communication interface configured to facilitate communications with a client device associated with a user when the client device is in proximity to the seating unit, wherein the communications include selection data generated by the client device based on user input by the user to an interactive user interface of the client device, wherein the client device generates the selection data when in proximity to the seating unit and wherein the selection data includes a target temperature;
- a seat back having a front side and a back side;
- a seat bottom having a top side and an underside;
- a first heating element, attached to the back side of the seat back, and configured to deliver first heating through the seat back to a user while seated in the seating unit when electrically powered;
- a second heating element, attached to the underside of the seat bottom, and configured to deliver second heating through the seat bottom to the user while seated in the seating unit when electrically powered;
- at least one processor configured to selectively adjust the target temperature based on an ambient temperature;
- and
- circuitry configured to facilitate delivery of power to the first heating element and the second heating element responsive to the target temperature;
- wherein the first heating unit includes first bus bars attached to a first carbon fiber sheet and the second heating unit includes second bus bars attached to a second carbon fiber sheet, and wherein the first bus bars and the second bus bars are each electrically connected to a power transfer unit to deliver the power from a power source to the first heating element and the second heating element.
A method for use with a seating unit, the method comprising:
- receiving, via a communication interface from a client device associated with a user, communications that include selection data generated by the client device based on user input by the user to an interactive user interface of the client device, wherein the selection data includes a target temperature;
- receiving, via at least one processor, an ambient temperature associated with an environment surrounding the seating unit;
- selectively adjusting, via the at least one processor, the target temperature based on the ambient temperature;
- and
- delivering power to a first heating element of the seating unit and a second heating element of the seating unit responsive to the target temperature, wherein the first heating unit includes first bus bars attached to a first carbon fiber sheet and the second heating unit includes second bus bars attached to a second carbon fiber sheet, and wherein the first bus bars and the second bus bars are each electrically connected to a power transfer unit to deliver the power from a power source to the first heating element and the second heating element.
