## Abstract

A system and method for an intelligent hair drying/styling apparatus with user information transmission and storage capabilities is herein provided. The hair drying/styling apparatus houses a control circuit board and an infrared or temperature sensor (or camera) in order detect an individual's hair condition moisture level to determine a user specific, customizable dryer setting. The information detected by the sensor is stored locally, on a proximal Internet-enabled device, or on a remote or cloud-based server and accessed by the hair drying/styling apparatus through a wireless local area network connectivity function. This innovation will enable any number of hair professionals and or end consumers to improve styling and dry time. According to the present invention, energy usage is reduced to enable a more efficient design.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A hair styling apparatus comprising:
one or more heating elements positioned in a housing of the hair styling apparatus;
control circuitry coupled to a power source configured to control the one or more heating elements; and
one or more inertial sensors coupled to the control circuitry configured to measure the hair styling apparatus's orientation or motion in space;
wherein the one or more inertial sensors are configured to generate an output signal representing the hair styling apparatus's orientation or motion in space; and
wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect a change in the hair styling apparatus's orientation or motion in space based on the output signal from the one or more inertial sensors.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more inertial sensors are further configured to responsively reduce thermal output of the one or more heating elements when the hair styling apparatus is placed down.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 2, wherein reducing the thermal output includes powering off the hair styling apparatus when placed down.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more sensors are further configured to responsively increase thermal output of the one or more heating elements when the hair styling apparatus is picked up.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 4, wherein increasing the thermal output includes powering on the hair styling apparatus when picked up.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more inertial sensors include accelerometer sensors.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 1, wherein the hair styling apparatus is selected from a group consisting of: hair dryer; hot air brush; curling iron; flat iron; and a hot brush.

### Claim 8

A hair styling apparatus comprising:
one or more heating elements positioned in a housing of the hair styling apparatus;
control circuitry coupled to a power source configured to adjust thermal output of the one or more heating elements; and
one or more motion sensors configured to sense orientation and/or motion of the hair styling apparatus; and
adjust the thermal output of the one or more heating elements based on the orientation and/or motion.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 8, wherein the one or more motion sensors are configured to sense a lack of motion and the adjustment of the thermal output includes responsively reducing the thermal output of the one or more heating elements.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 9, wherein sensing the lack of motion includes when the hair styling apparatus is placed down.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 8, wherein the one or more motion sensors are configured to sense motion and the adjustment of the thermal output includes responsively increasing the thermal output of the one or more heating elements.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 11, wherein sensing the motion includes when the hair styling apparatus is picked up.

### Claim 13 (depends on 10)

The hair styling apparatus of claim 10, wherein the hair styling apparatus is selected from the group consisting of: hair dryer; hot air brush; curling iron; flat iron; and a hot brush.

### Claim 14

A hair styling apparatus comprising:
one or more heating elements;
control circuitry configured to control the one or more heating elements; and
wireless connectivity coupled to the control circuitry configured to send or retrieve a personalized profile for a user with an external device.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)
