Abstract
A method of making a coated article includes forming a first coating over a first surface of a substrate; and forming a second coating over a second surface of the substrate. The second coating includes a first conductive layer including tin oxide and at least one material selected from the group consisting of tungsten, molybdenum, and niobium.
Claims10
A method of making a coated article for a solar cell, comprising:
- forming a first coating over a first surface of a substrate;
- and
- forming a second coating over a second surface of the substrate, the second coating comprising:
- an underlayer comprising a sodium ion barrier layer comprising silica;
- a first conductive oxide layer formed by chemical vapor deposition over the underlayer and in direct contact with the sodium ion barrier layer, the first conductive oxide layer comprising a single layer comprising a mixture of a first tin precursor material, a second tin precursor material, and a tungsten precursor material comprising tungsten tetrachloride;
- an overlayer over the first conductive oxide layer;
- a semiconductor layer over the overlayer;
- and
- a second conductive layer over the semiconductor layer,
- wherein the first conductive oxide layer comprises an amount of tungsten within a range of from 0.1 wt % to less than 2 wt % tungsten, and
- wherein the first tin precursor material comprises monobutyl tin chloride (MBTC) and the second tin precursor material comprises dibutyltin diacetate (DBTA).

A method of making a solar cell, comprising:
- forming a first coating over a first surface of a substrate, the first coating comprising (a) an antireflective layer comprising a material selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, oxides of metal alloys, nitrides, oxynitrides, and mixtures thereof and having a thickness in the range of 25 nm to 100 nm, and (b) a light scattering layer comprising a material selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, zinc oxide, titania, zirconia, tin oxide, and mixtures thereof and having an average surface roughness in the range of 50 nm to 500 nm;
- and
- forming a second coating over a second surface of the substrate,
- wherein the second coating comprises:
- an underlayer located over the second surface, wherein the underlayer has a thickness in the range of 20 nm to 400 nm and comprises (a) a bottom optical layer comprising an oxide of tin, zinc, silicon, aluminum, titanium, and/or mixtures thereof and (b) a sodium ion barrier layer comprising a material selected from the group consisting of silica, titania, phosphorous oxide, and mixtures thereof;
- a first conductive oxide layer over and in direct contact with the sodium ion barrier layer, wherein the first conductive oxide layer has a thickness in the range of 200 nm to 600 nm and comprises a single layer comprising a mixture of tin oxide and tungsten;
- an overlayer over the first conductive oxide layer, wherein the overlayer has a thickness in the range of 20 nm to 400 nm and comprises a buffer layer comprising tin oxide and at least one of zinc, indium, gallium, magnesium, and nitrogen;
- a semiconductor layer over the first conductive oxide layer;
- and
- a second conductive layer over the semiconductor layer, wherein the second conductive layer comprises a metallic layer,
- wherein the first conductive oxide layer comprises an amount of tungsten within a range of from 0.1 wt % to less than 2 wt % tungsten,
- wherein the first conductive oxide layer is formed using at least a first tin precursor material and a second tin precursor material, and
- wherein the first tin precursor material comprises monobutyl tin chloride (MBTC) and the second tin precursor material comprises dibutyltin diacetate (DBTA).
