Communication method and apparatus

A method, comprising:

• receiving, by a first core network element, a second message from an access management network element, wherein the second message is configured to establish or update a first user plane connection, or the second message is configured to request to select the first user plane connection, wherein the first user plane connection is used to transmit positioning information of a terminal device, and the second message comprises a location service identifier;
• and
• sending, by the first core network element, second information to the access management network element, wherein the second information comprises the location service identifier, or the second information comprises the location service identifier and at least one of the following:
• an identifier of the terminal device, or
• core network user plane connection information of the first user plane connection.

An apparatus, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• a memory coupled to the one or more processors with instructions stored thereon, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, enable the apparatus to perform:
• receiving a first message, wherein the first message comprises a positioning request of a terminal device, or the first message comprises a location information request corresponding to the terminal device;
• and
• sending a second message to a first core network element, wherein the second message is configured to establish or update a first user plane connection, or the second message is configured to select the first user plane connection, wherein the first user plane connection is used to transmit positioning information of the terminal device, and the second message comprises a location service identifier.
