Systems and methods for traffic steering in radio access network based on transport network and core network information

A device comprising:

• a processor configured to:
• receive a request to establish a communication session or data flow for a user equipment (UE) device connected to a Radio Access Network (RAN);
• obtain, in response to the request and prior to selecting a particular path in a transport network, key performance indicators (KPI) information relating to one or more KPIs for a plurality of paths in the transport network used by the RAN to connect to a core network;
• determine a KPI requirement for the communication session or data flow to be established;
• select the particular path in the transport network based on the obtained KPI information and the determined KPI requirement,
• wherein the processor configured to select the particular path is further configured to exclude a path of the plurality of paths in the transport network from consideration when the obtained KPI information indicates that a latency for the path is higher than a first threshold latency value and the determined KPI requirement includes a latency requirement below a second threshold latency value;
• and
• establish the communication session or data flow in the transport network using the selected path.

A non-transitory computer-readable memory device storing instructions executable by a processor, the non-transitory computer-readable memory device comprising:

• one or more instructions to receive a request to establish a communication session or data flow for a user equipment (UE) device connected to a Radio Access Network (RAN);
• one or more instructions to obtain, in response to the request and prior to selecting a particular path in a transport network, key performance indicators (KPI) information relating to one or more KPIs for a plurality of paths in the transport network used by the RAN to connect to a core network;
• one or more instructions to determine a KPI requirement for the communication session or data flow to be established;
• one or more instructions to select the particular path in the transport network based on the obtained KPI information and the determined KPI requirement,
• wherein the one or more instructions to select the particular path include one or more instructions to exclude a path of the plurality of paths in the transport network from consideration when the obtained KPI information indicates that a latency for the path is higher than a first threshold latency value and the determined KPI requirement includes a latency requirement below a second threshold latency value;
• and
• one or more instructions to establish the communication session or data flow in the transport network using the selected path.
