Abstract
Disclosed are systems and methods for priority emergency messages over Wi-Fi. Particularly, the systems and methods may relate to an emergency message prioritization feature that may be used in association with Wi-Fi networks (for example, based on the 802.11 wireless standard). The feature may allow a station (STA) to request for such prioritization from an access point (AP) to allow the STA to receive priority in message transmission/receipt during emergency situations.
Claims20
A device, the device comprising processing circuitry coupled to storage, the processing circuitry configured to:
- receive, by a first AP and while an STA authentication capability for an emergency preparedness communications service is disabled in the first AP, a notification of a first request from a station (STA) for communications priority with the first AP, wherein STA authentication for the emergency preparedness communications service is disabled in the first AP by default;
- disregard, by the first AP and based on the STA authentication for the emergency preparedness communications service being disabled, the first request from the STA for communications priority with the first AP;
- enable, based on a determination that an emergency is occurring in an area associated with the first AP, the STA authentication capability of the first AP for the emergency preparedness communications service;
- receive, subsequent to enabling the emergency preparedness communications service and by the first AP, a notification of a second request from the STA for communications priority with the first AP;
- determine, based on the STA authentication capability of the first AP being enabled, that the STA is authorized to enable the emergency preparedness communications service;
- and
- communicate, to the first AP and based on the STA being an authorized STA, an adjusted priority for messages associated with the STA.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions which when executed by one or more processors of a device result in performing operations comprising:
- receiving, by a first AP and while an STA authentication capability for an emergency preparedness communications service is disabled in the first AP, a notification of a first request from a station (STA) for communications priority with the first AP, wherein STA authentication for the emergency preparedness communications service is disabled in the first AP by default;
- disregarding, by the first AP and based on the STA authentication for the emergency preparedness communications service being disabled, the first request from the STA for communications priority with the first AP;
- enabling, based on a determination that an emergency is occurring in an area associated with the first AP, the STA authentication capability of the first AP for the emergency preparedness communications service;
- receiving, subsequent to enabling the emergency preparedness communications service, a notification of a second request from the STA for communications priority with the first AP;
- determining, based on the STA authentication capability of the first AP for the emergency preparedness communications service being enabled, that the STA is authorized to use the emergency preparedness communications service;
- and
- determining, based on the STA being an authorized STA, an adjusted priority for messages associated with the STA.
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a first AP and while an STA authentication capability for an emergency preparedness communications service is disabled in the first AP, a notification of a first request from a station (STA) for communications priority with the first AP, wherein STA authentication for the emergency preparedness communications service is disabled in the first AP by default;
- disregarding, by the first AP and based on the STA authentication for the emergency preparedness communications service being disabled, the first request from the STA for communications priority with the first AP;
- enabling, based on a determination that an emergency is occurring in an area associated with a first AP, the STA authentication capability of the first AP for the emergency preparedness communications service;
- receiving, subsequent to enabling the emergency preparedness communications service, a notification of a second request from the STA for communications priority with the first AP;
- determining, based on the STA authentication capability of the first AP for the emergency preparedness communications service being enabled, that the STA is authorized to use the emergency preparedness communications service;
- and
- determining, based on the STA being an authorized STA, an adjusted priority for messages associated with the STA.
