Abstract
Systems and techniques are provided for optical systems including meta-lenses. For example, an apparatus can include an image sensor including a surface having a first region and a second region, the surface intersecting with an optical axis. The second region extends beyond one or more edges of the first region. The apparatus includes a substrate including a meta-lens, the optical axis intersecting with the meta-lens and the substrate. A cross-section of the substrate extends beyond the second region of the image sensor in at least one direction along the surface of the image sensor. The apparatus includes a spacer structure disposed between the substrate and the image sensor.
Claims20
An apparatus comprising:
- an image sensor comprising a surface having a detector array and a peripheral region outside of the detector array, the detector array intersecting with an optical axis, wherein the peripheral region extends beyond one or more edges of the detector array;
- a substrate comprising a meta-lens, the optical axis intersecting with the meta-lens and the substrate, wherein a cross-section of the substrate extends beyond the peripheral region of the image sensor in at least one direction along the surface of the image sensor;
- and
- a spacer structure disposed between the substrate and the image sensor, the optical axis intersecting with the spacer structure, wherein a spacer element of the spacer structure is directly coupled to the detector array.
A method of optical detection, comprising:
- receiving, at a substrate comprising a meta-lens, light from a scene, wherein an optical axis intersects with the meta-lens and the substrate;
- and
- receiving the light from the scene at an image sensor, the image sensor comprising a surface having a detector array and a peripheral region outside of the detector array, the surface intersecting with the optical axis, wherein the peripheral region extends beyond one or more edges of the detector array, wherein a cross-section of the substrate extends beyond the peripheral region of the image sensor in at least one direction along the surface of the image sensor, and wherein a spacer structure is disposed between the substrate and the image sensor, a spacer element of the spacer structure being directly coupled to the detector array.
