Providing augmented reality in association with live events

A method comprising:

• accessing first live video provided to a media server located at a venue of a live event, the first live video having been captured by a first camera positioned at the venue in association with the live event;
• accessing timeline data stored by the media server, the timeline data comprising a sequence of cues, each cue specifying a respective portion of augmented reality content preselected for the live event to be applied with respect to the first live video during the live event;
• generating, by the media server during the live event, a composited video stream by applying the respective portion of augmented reality content specified by a current cue of the sequence of cues to the first live video;
• causing, based on the timeline data, an output device positioned at the venue to display the composited video stream concurrently with the live event;
• and
• contemporaneously providing, over a network from the media server to each of a plurality of client devices located at the venue, an indication of the current cue, each of the plurality of client devices comprising a respective second camera configured to capture respective second live video in association with the live event, and each of the plurality of client devices being configured to render, locally at the client device and based on the indication of the current cue, the respective portion of augmented reality content specified by the current cue onto the respective second live video concurrently with the live event.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

• accessing first live video provided to a media server located at a venue of a live event, the first live video having been captured by a first camera positioned at the venue in association with the live event;
• accessing timeline data stored by the media server, the timeline data comprising a sequence of cues, each cue specifying a respective portion of augmented reality content preselected for the live event to be applied with respect to the first live video during the live event;
• generating, by the media server during the live event, a composited video stream by applying the respective portion of augmented reality content specified by a current cue of the sequence of cues to the first live video;
• causing, based on the timeline data, an output device positioned at the venue to display the composited video stream concurrently with the live event;
• and
• contemporaneously providing, over a network from the media server to each of a plurality of client devices located at the venue, an indication of the current cue, each of the plurality of client devices comprising a respective second camera configured to capture respective second live video in association with the live event, and each of the plurality of client devices being configured to render, locally at the client device and based on the indication of the current cue, the respective portion of augmented reality content specified by the current cue onto the respective second live video concurrently with the live event.
