Dynamic management of energy efficient ethernet feature

A device, comprising:

• a processor;
• one or more ports, wherein each of the one or more ports has an Energy Efficient Ethernet (“EEE”) feature default enabled;
• and
• a memory communicatively coupled to the processor, wherein the memory comprises a feature management logic that is configured to:
• detect a link partner associated with a port of the one or more ports;
• determine a set of EEE parameters associated with the link partner;
• and
• control dynamic disablement and re-enablement of the EEE feature on the port based on the set of EEE parameters;
• determine whether an EEE capability of the link partner matches that of the port;
• and
• initiate auto-negotiation with the link partner after disablement of the EEE feature.

A method, comprising:

• detecting a link partner associated with a port of one or more ports of a device, wherein each of the one or more ports has an Energy Efficient Ethernet (“EEE”) feature default enabled;
• determining a set of EEE parameters associated with the link partner;
• disabling the EEE feature on the port based on at least one of the set of EEE parameters being different from an acceptable state;
• determining whether an EEE capability of the link partner matches that of the port;
• and
• initiating auto-negotiation with the link partner after disabling of the EEE feature.
