A system and method maintain secure session continuity by using cryptographic material stored in a hardware-based or software-based security module to generate periodic, event-triggered, or server-initiated continuity assertions. A client-side execution environment creates a continuity assertion payload, obtains a cryptographic proof-of-possession from the security module, and transmits or embeds the continuity assertion within client-to-server communication while operating under platform-controlled scheduling, background suspension, timer adjustments, deferred tasks, or network-wake constraints. A remote server may verify the proof-of-possession, evaluate freshness indicators and delivery context, and maintain session validity. Embodiments may include challenge-response exchanges, encrypted payloads, offline handling, reconnection reconciliation, adjustable intervals, and background-execution contexts.
