Modifying buffer delay in a media broadcast system

A processing device comprising:

• memory storing a program of instructions;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute the program of instructions to cause the processing device to
• store as buffered media, at a streaming media station, media being played out by a main media station,
• play out, at the streaming media station, the buffered media in response to expiration of a target buffer delay,
• obtain, at the streaming media station, a replacement media item during a time the buffered media is being played out,
• play out, at the streaming media station, the replacement media item;
• store as additional buffered media, at the streaming media station, additional media being played out by the main media station during a time the streaming media station is playing out the replacement media item,
• generate a modified buffer delay based on the target buffer delay;
• and
• play out, at the streaming media station, the additional buffered media based on the modified buffer delay.

A media broadcasting system, comprising:

• a main station configured to play out media content, and to transmit the media content to a streaming media station;
• and
• the streaming media station configured to stream received media content, the streaming media station including memory storing a program of instructions, and a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute the program of instructions to cause the streaming media station to
• store as buffered media, at the streaming media station, media being played out by a main media station,
• play out, at the streaming media station, the buffered media in response to expiration of a target buffer delay,
• obtain, at the streaming media station, a replacement media item during a time the buffered media is being played out,
• play out, at the streaming media station, the replacement media item;
• store as additional buffered media, at the streaming media station, additional media being played out by the main media station during a time the streaming media station is playing out the replacement media item,
• generate, at the streaming media station, a modified buffer delay based on the target buffer delay;
• and
• play out, at the streaming media station, the additional buffered media based on the modified buffer delay.
