Scheduling and beam design in JPTA

A method comprising:

• identifying a plurality of user equipments (UEs) to schedule, a plurality of resource blocks (RBs), and a UE beam map, wherein the UE beam map maps one or more beams from a plurality of beams to one or more UEs in the plurality of UEs;
• determining, for each UE in the plurality of UEs, (i) a beam direction based the UE beam map and (ii) a set of RBs from the plurality of RBs based on a beam gain on the set of RBs in the beam direction of the each UE, wherein the sets of RBs determined for the UEs, respectively, are over different frequencies;
• determining a joint phase time array (JPTA) beam for each of the plurality of UEs;
• and
• transmitting scheduling information indicating the determined sets of RBs and the determined JPTA beams.

A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising program code that, when executed by a processor of a base station (BS), causes the BS to:

• identify a plurality of user equipments (UEs) to schedule, a plurality of resource blocks (RBs), and a UE beam map, wherein the UE beam map maps one or more beams from a plurality of beams to one or more UEs in the plurality of UEs;
• determine, for each UE in the plurality of UEs, (i) a beam direction based the UE beam map and (ii) a set of RBs from the plurality of RBs based on a beam gain on the set of RBs in the beam direction of the each UE, wherein the sets of RBs determined for the UEs, respectively, are over different frequencies;
• determine a joint phase time array (JPTA) beam for each of the plurality of UEs;
• and
• transmit scheduling information indicating the determined sets of RBs and the determined JPTA beams.
