Abstract
Proposed is a secondary battery including an electrode assembly, an electrode assembly, a plate disposed on both sides of the electrode assembly, and a pouch film coupled to the plate and accommodating the electrode assembly. The secondary battery has a structure in which the pouch film seals the outer edges of the plate to accommodate the electrode assembly, so that no cup is formed in the process of forming of the pouch film. As a result, there is no limit to the increase in thickness of the electrode assembly, thereby increasing the energy density per volume of the battery.
Claims17
A secondary battery comprising:
- an electrode assembly including electrode tabs, the electrode tabs are disposed on front side or back side of the electrode assembly;
- a first plate disposed on left side of the electrode assembly;
- a second plate disposed on right side of the electrode assembly, wherein the first plate and the second plate are separate pieces respectively disposed on opposing sides of the electrode assembly where the electrode tabs are not disposed;
- and
- a pouch film configured to cover upper side and lower side of the electrode assembly and seal by thermal fusion to upper surface, lower surface, front surface, and back surface of each of the first and second plates to accommodate the electrode assembly therein,
- wherein the respective surfaces of the first and second plates that face away from the opposing sides of the electrode assembly are not covered by the pouch film.
A battery module comprising a plurality of secondary batteries stacked in front and back directions of the battery module, each secondary battery of the plurality of secondary batteries including:
- an electrode assembly including electrode tabs, the electrode tabs are disposed on front side or back side of the electrode assembly;
- a first plate disposed on left side of the electrode assembly;
- a second plate disposed on right side of the electrode assembly, wherein the first plate and the second plate are separate pieces respectively disposed on opposing sides of the electrode assembly where the electrode tabs are not disposed;
- and
- a pouch film configured to cover upper side and lower side of the electrode assembly and seal by thermal fusion to upper surface, lower surface, front surface, and back surface of each of the first and second plates to accommodate the electrode assembly therein,
- wherein the plurality of secondary batteries is configured such that the first and second plates are disposed in the upper and lower directions of the battery module, and the electrode tabs are disposed in the left and right directions of the battery module,
- wherein the left and right sides of the secondary battery correspond to the upper and lower directions of the battery module, and
- wherein the respective surfaces of the first and second plates that face away from the opposing sides of the electrode assembly are not covered by the pouch film.
