Abstract
The electrical resistance of active cathodic and anodic films may be significantly reduced by the addition of small fractions of conductive additives within a battery system. The decrease in resistance in the cathode and/or anode leads to easier electron transport through the battery, resulting in increases in power, capacity and rates while decreasing joules heating losses.
Claims4
A battery cathode with enhanced electrical conductivity for use in a battery, the battery cathode comprising:
- an active base cathode material comprising lithium iron phosphate;
- and
- conductive nickel-filamentary branching structures comprising nanostrands dispersed within the active base cathode material creating a dispersed mixture having nanonets providing a multiplicity of touch points between the active base cathode material and the nanostrands, wherein the nanostrands are dispersed into the active base cathode material in a loading weight range 1% up to 10% of the active base cathode material.
