A 228Th-based generator for producing 212Pb, comprising:
- an inert oxide substrate comprising a 228Th surface layer adhered thereto such that gaseous 220Rn produced by decay of 228Th emanates from the 228Th surface layer, wherein the inert oxide substrate has a porosity in volume percentage of total volume of the inert oxide substrate of 0.01 to 10, and the 228Th surface layer has average activity of at least 10 MBq per cm2;
- and
- a chamber comprising a collection surface, which chamber is configured to house the inert oxide substrate in the chamber with the 228Th surface layer in gaseous communication with the collection surface;
- wherein the 228Th surface layer permits emanation of gaseous 220Rn into the chamber;
- wherein 212Pb produced by radioactive decay of the gaseous 220Rn collects on the collection surface;
- and
- wherein the emanating gaseous 220Rn contains less than 0.1% 228Th as a contaminant and/or the 212Pb contains less than 0.1% 228Th as a contaminant.
A 228Th-based generator for producing 212Pb, comprising
- an inert oxide substrate having a substantially planar surface comprising a 228Th surface layer adhered thereto such that gaseous 220Rn produced by decay of 228Th emanates from the 228Th surface layer, wherein the inert oxide substrate has a density of between 2 g/cm3 and 15 g/cm3 and a porosity in volume percentage of total volume of the inert oxide substrate of 0.01 to 10, and the 228Th surface layer has average activity of at least 100 MBq per cm2;
- and
- a chamber comprising a collection surface, which chamber is configured to house the inert oxide substrate in the chamber with the 228Th surface layer in gaseous communication with the collection surface;
- wherein the 228Th surface layer permits emanation of gaseous 220Rn into the chamber;
- wherein 212Pb produced by radioactive decay of the gaseous 220Rn collects on the collection surface;
- and
- wherein the emanating gaseous 220Rn contains less than 0.1% 228Th as a contaminant and/or the 212Pb contains less than 0.1% 228Th as a contaminant.
A 220Rn emanating inert oxide substrate comprising a 228Th surface layer adhered thereto such that gaseous 220Rn produced by decay of 228Th emanates from the 228Th surface layer, wherein the inert oxide substrate in volume percentage of total volume of the inert oxide substrate has a porosity of 0.01 to 10, and the 228Th surface layer has an average activity of at least 10 MBq per cm2.
A 220Rn emanating inert oxide substrate having a substantially planar surface comprising a 228Th surface layer adhered thereto such that gaseous 220Rn produced by decay of 228Th emanates from the 228Th surface layer, wherein the inert oxide substrate has a density of between 2 g/cm3 and 15 g/cm3 and a porosity in volume percentage of total volume of the inert oxide substrate of 0.01 to 10, and the 228Th surface layer has average activity of at least 100 MBq per cm2.
A 220Rn emanating inert oxide substrate comprising 228Th disposed thereon forming a 228Th layer, where the 228Th is disposed in an amount effective to provide an activity of at least 200 MBq, where the 228Th layer permits emanation from the surface of the inert oxide substate of gaseous 220Rn produced by radioactive decay of 228Th in the 228Th layer, and the 228Th layer is adhered to the inert oxide substrate such that the emanating gaseous 220Rn contains less than 0.1% 228Th as a contaminant.
