Automated device activation in interactive content

A system comprising:

• control circuitry configured to:
• receive an audible signal from a media device, wherein the audible signal comprises a natural language component;
• based at least in part on determining that the natural language component comprises a trigger component:
• identify a voice-activated electronic device;
• and
• transmit one or more inaudible signals comprising (a) a wake phrase for the voice-activated electronic device, (b) a skill invocation phrase for the voice-activated electronic device, and (c) a trigger phrase, wherein:
• the wake phrase causes the voice-activated electronic device to enter an active state;
• and
• the skill invocation phrase configures the voice-activated electronic device to, when in an active state, initiate a particular application of the voice-activated electronic device and prepare the voice-activated electronic device to perform a particular activity.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions encoded thereon that, when executed by control circuitry, cause the control circuitry to:

• receive an audible signal from a media device, wherein the audible signal comprises a natural language component;
• based at least in part on determining that the natural language component comprises a trigger component:
• identify a voice-activated electronic device;
• transmit one or more inaudible signals comprising (a) a wake phrase for the voice-activated electronic device, (b) a skill invocation phrase for the voice-activated electronic device, and (c) a trigger phrase, wherein:
• the wake phrase causes the voice-activated electronic device to enter an active state;
• and
• the skill invocation phrase configures the voice-activated electronic device to, when in the active state, initiate a particular application of the voice-activated electronic device.
