Abstract
A fretting saddling member with a saddling interface and a string contactable fretting crown is coupled to a body of a stringed musical instrument. The saddling interface contacts a string and directs it above the fretting crown and towards a neck of the stringed musical instrument. A player may use the wrist of the picking hand to depress the string between the saddling interface and the fretting crown until the string contacts the fretting crown. A length of the string extending from the fretting crown to a nut on the neck may be plucked with the thumb of the picking hand.
Claims30
A component for a stringed musical instrument, the component comprising:
- a block comprising:
- a saddling interface;
- a fretting crown spaced longitudinally forward of the saddling interface;
- and a slot configured to receive an insert of the stringed musical instrument,
- wherein the block is adjustably positionable on a body of the stringed musical instrument such that a string of the stringed musical instrument extends i) from a longitudinally rearward critical contact point on the saddling interface, ii) at a wrist fretable vertical distance above the fretting crown, iii) above a neck of the stringed musical instrument connected to the body of the stringed musical instrument, iv) to a longitudinally forward critical contact point on a nut of the stringed musical instrument disposed on the neck of the stringed musical instrument,
- wherein the insert of the stringed musical instrument connects to the body of the stringed musical instrument, and
- wherein, with the insert of the stringed musical instrument inserted into the slot, a longitudinal position of the block is adjustable relative to the body of the stringed musical instrument by manipulating the block, via the slot, along the insert of the stringed musical instrument.
An assembly for a stringed musical instrument, the assembly comprising:
- a block comprising a saddling interface and a fretting crown spaced longitudinally forward of the saddling interface,
- wherein the block is adjustably positionable on a body of the stringed musical instrument such that a proto string of the stringed musical instrument extends i) from a proto string longitudinally rearward critical contact point on the saddling interface, ii) at a wrist fretable vertical distance above the fretting crown, iii) above a neck of the stringed musical instrument connected to the body of the stringed musical instrument, iv) to a proto string longitudinally forward critical contact point on a nut of the stringed musical instrument disposed on the neck of the stringed musical instrument.
A stringed musical instrument comprising:
- a body;
- a neck comprising a longitudinally rearward end connected to the body and a longitudinally forward end located away from the body;
- a fingerboard connected to the neck;
- a nut disposed on the longitudinally forward end of the neck;
- and
- a block comprising a saddling interface and a fretting crown spaced longitudinally forward of the saddling interface,
- wherein the block is adjustably positionable on the body such that a proto string i) contacts the saddling interface at a proto string longitudinally rearward critical contact point, ii) extends above the fretting crown and the fingerboard, and iii) contacts the nut at a proto string longitudinally forward critical contact point, and
- wherein the block is positionable such that the fretting crown defines a wrist fretable note above an open note of the proto string.
