Abstract
Our device presents a novel 3-dimensional model that can be configured to present a complex dorsal and/or volar dislocation requiring anatomically correct maneuvers to achieve successful reduction. The size of our device approximates the scale and geometry of an adult hand. The second and third fingers may be configured to function as a dislocated proximal interphangeal joint (“PIPJ”) in closed complex dorsal dislocation, and the fourth and fifth fingers may be configured to function as a dislocated PIPJ in closed volar dislocation with reduction achieved by the exaggeration-by-deformity technique. The second, third, fourth, and fifth fingers may be detachable from the palm by a hinge.
Claims33
A model hand comprising:
- a palm;
- at least one finger having:
- a proximal portion hingedly connected to the palm;
- a middle portion;
- and
- a distal portion connected to the middle portion;
- a compression pin having:
- a screw having two ends;
- a resilient washer positioned at a first of the two ends;
- and
- a nut positioned at a second of the two ends;
- wherein the compression pin extends from a dorsal side of the middle portion to a volar side of the proximal portion.
A model hand comprising:
- a palm;
- at least one finger having:
- a proximal portion hingedly connected to the palm, the proximal portion having a concave surface on a dorsal side of the proximal portion that is distal from the palm;
- a middle portion, the middle portion having a convex surface on volar side of the middle portion that is proximal to the palm;
- and
- a distal portion connected to the middle portion;
- a compression pin having:
- a screw having two ends;
- a resilient washer positioned at a first of the two ends;
- and
- a nut positioned at a second of the two ends;
- wherein the compression pin extends from a dorsal side of the middle portion to a volar side of the proximal portion.
