Abstract
Provided herein are methods and systems for improved acoustic data and sample analysis. A machine learning model may align an image of a sample with an acoustic image associated with the sample. The alignment of the image of the sample with the acoustic image may be used to generate a virtual orientation line. An output image comprising the virtual orientation line and the image of the sample may be generated. The output image may be displayed at a user interface that allows a user to interact with the output image.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a computing device, a sample image depicting a physical sample extracted from a borehole and an acoustic image indicative of the borehole from which the physical sample was extracted;
- determining, by a machine learning model, an alignment of the sample image with the acoustic image, wherein the machine learning model aligns the sample image with the acoustic image without relying on orientation data associated with the physical sample within the borehole;
- determining, based on the alignment of the sample image with the acoustic image, and based on the orientation data associated with the physical sample, a virtual orientation line associated with the physical sample by mapping the orientation data to the sample image;
- and
- causing, at a user interface, display of an output image, wherein the output image is indicative of the sample image and the virtual orientation line.
An apparatus comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
- receive a sample image depicting a physical sample extracted from a borehole and at least one acoustic image indicative of the borehole from which the physical sample was extracted;
- determine, by a machine learning model, an alignment of the sample image with the acoustic image, wherein the machine learning model aligns the sample image with the acoustic image without relying on orientation data associated with the physical sample within the borehole;
- determine, based on the alignment of the sample image with the acoustic image, and based on the orientation data associated with the physical sample, a virtual orientation line associated with the physical sample by mapping the orientation data to the sample image;
- and
- cause, at a user interface, display of an output image, wherein the output image is indicative of the sample image and the virtual orientation line.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising processor-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing device, cause the computing device to:
- receive a sample image depicting a physical sample extracted from a borehole and at least one acoustic image indicative of the borehole from which the physical sample was extracted;
- determine, by a machine learning model, an alignment of the sample image with the acoustic image, wherein the machine learning model aligns the sample image with the acoustic image without relying on orientation data associated with the physical sample within the borehole;
- determine, based on the alignment of the sample image with the acoustic image, and based on the orientation data associated with the physical sample, a virtual orientation line associated with the physical sample by mapping the orientation data to the sample image;
- and
- cause, at a user interface, display of an output image, wherein the output image is indicative of the sample image and the virtual orientation line.
