Abstract
Systems and methods are described for creating three dimensional models of building objects by creating a point cloud from a plurality of input images, defining edges of the building object's surfaces represented by the point cloud, creating simplified geometries of the building object's surfaces and constructing a building model based on the simplified geometries. Input images may include ground, orthographic, or oblique images. The resultant model may be scaled according to correlation with select image types and textured.
Claims16
One or more non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more processors:
- collect a plurality of captured ground-level two-dimensional (2D) images for a plurality of facades of a building object;
- create a point cloud from the collected plurality of captured ground-level 2D images;
- outline, within at least one of the plurality of captured ground-level 2D images, a single 2D planar surface within the ground-level 2D image;
- select a plurality of 3D data points from the created point cloud based on a correlation with a plurality of 2D points from the outlined single 2D planar surface within the ground-level 2D image;
- create a simplified façade geometry from the selected 3D data points by placing a position of the simplified facade geometry according to an average planar fit among the selected 3D data points;
- and
- texture the simplified façade geometry with one or more of the collected plurality of captured ground-level 2D images.
A system configured for generating a textured 3D building model, the system comprising:
- one or more processors configured with machine-readable instructions to:
- collect a plurality of captured ground-level 2D images for a plurality of facades of a building object;
- create a point cloud from the collected plurality of captured ground-level 2D images;
- outline, within at least one of the plurality of captured ground-level 2D images, a single 2D planar surface within the ground-level 2D image;
- select a plurality of 3D data points from the created point cloud based on a correlation with a plurality of 2D points from the outlined single 2D planar surface within the ground-level 2D image;
- create simplified façade geometry from the selected 3D data points by placing a position of the simplified facade geometry according to an average planar fit among the selected 3D data points;
- and
- texture the simplified façade geometry with one or more of the collected plurality of captured ground-level 2D images.
