Abstract
The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for reconstructing three-dimensional images with multi-dimensional transfer functions for visualization. In at least one embodiment, a method comprises computing one or more 3D surfaces corresponding to a boundary of a 3D object based at least in part on applying a multi-dimensional transfer function to scalar volume data obtained by a scan of the object; and transmitting data descriptive of the one or more 3D surfaces to an extended reality device to display the 3D representation of the object.

A method executed by a processing device for reconstructing and displaying a three-dimensional (3D) representation of an object from scalar volume data corresponding to a scan of the object with a medical imaging system, the method comprising:
- computing a 3D histogram volume data object comprising axes corresponding to the scalar volume data, a first derivative, and a second derivative, and histogram bins representing a combination of the scalar volume data, the first derivative, and the second derivative;
- computing one or more 3D surfaces corresponding to a boundary of the 3D object based at least in part on the 3D histogram volume data;
- applying a multi-dimensional transfer function to the computed one or more 3D surfaces;
- and
- transmitting data descriptive of the computed one or more 3D surfaces to an extended reality (XR) device to display the 3D representation of the object.
A method of presenting for display a three-dimensional (3D) representation of an object by an extended reality (XR) device, the method comprising:
- receiving, by the XR device:
- data descriptive of one or more 3D surfaces representative of the object, the data derived from multi-dimensional transfer function applied to scalar volume data corresponding to a scan of the object;
- and
- 3D histogram volume data descriptive of axes corresponding to the scalar volume data representative of the scanned object;
- and
- generating for display the one or more 3D surfaces representative of the scanned object based on the 3D histogram volume data.
