Automatic query optimization

An apparatus, comprising:

• one or more memories storing processor-executable code;
• and
• one or more processors coupled with the one or more memories and individually or collectively operable to execute the code to cause the apparatus to:
• receive a first instance of a query from a computing device;
• execute the query, by a data management system (DMS) in response to receiving the first instance of the query, to retrieve, from a database, first information that is responsive to the query, wherein a first execution time corresponding to execution of the query is greater than a threshold amount of time;
• generate, by the DMS based at least in part on the first execution time being greater than the threshold amount of time, an improved version of the query, the improved version of the query corresponding to a second execution time that is less than the first execution time;
• execute, by the DMS after the generating of the improved version of the query as a part of a verification operation, the improved version of the query within the second execution time to retrieve first resulting information, the second execution time being less than the first execution time;
• compare, by the DMS, second resulting information retrieved via execution of the query with the first resulting information retrieved via execution of the improved version of the query;
• store, in a second database based at least in part on the comparing, the improved version of the query based at least in part on the second execution time corresponding to the improved version being less than the first execution time corresponding to the query;
• and
• execute, by the DMS after storing the improved version of the query, the improved version of the query within the second execution time to retrieve second information from the database that is responsive to the query.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code, the code comprising instructions executable by one or more processors to:

• receive a first instance of a query from a computing device;
• execute the query, by a data management system (DMS) in response to receiving the first instance of the query, to retrieve, from a database, first information that is responsive to the query, wherein a first execution time corresponding to execution of the query is greater than a threshold amount of time;
• generate, by the DMS based at least in part on the first execution time being greater than the threshold amount of time, an improved version of the query, the improved version of the query corresponding to a second execution time that is less than the first execution time;
• execute, by the DMS after the generating of the improved version of the query as a part of a verification operation, the improved version of the query within the second execution time to retrieve first resulting information, the second execution time being less than the first execution time;
• compare, by the DMS, second resulting information retrieved via execution of the query with the first resulting information retrieved via execution of the improved version of the query;
• store, in a second database based at least in part on the comparing, the improved version of the query based at least in part on the second execution time corresponding to the improved version being less than the first execution time corresponding to the query;
• and
• execute, by the DMS after storing the improved version of the query, the improved version of the query within the second execution time to retrieve second information from the database that is responsive to the query.
