Automating identification of test cases for library suggestion models

A system for adding a library model to a library knowledge base, comprising:

• means for pruning input source code files to identify a candidate code snippet in the input source code files, wherein the input source code files are from a software program represented by the library model;
• means for extracting the candidate code snippet;
• means for templating the candidate code snippet by generating a library configuration file for the candidate code snippet, wherein generating the library configuration file includes filling a configuration file template with extracted data associated with the candidate code snippet to automatically populate a plurality of data fields in the library configuration file with information identifying the library model for the candidate code snippet, where one or more of the data fields are filled by scraping a documentation page for the library model to extract test cases, and then scraping each extracted test case to extract a set of custom input test cases for inclusion in the one or more of the data fields of the library configuration file;
• means for submitting the library configuration file to a validator which validates the library configuration file to ensure that the library model is correctly formatted and satisfies predetermined library model constraints;
• means for adding the library model to the library knowledge base if the library configuration file is correctly formatted and satisfies the predetermined library model constraints;
• means for compiling the candidate code snippet;
• means for injecting a shared input into the compiled candidate code snippet and a library function;
• means for executing the complied candidate code snippet and the library function to generate outputs from the shared input;
• means for comparing the outputs generated from the compiled candidate code snippet and the library function on a basis of the shared input to determine if an output of the compiled candidate code snippet matches an output of the library function;
• means for identifying the library function as a substitute for the candidate code snippet when the output of the compiled candidate code snippet matches the output of the library function;
• and
• means for substituting the library function for the candidate code snippet in the input source code files;
• wherein each of the means includes one or more processors to execute code.
